I love Jesus, but I really don’t like Christmas. The pressure to find the perfect gift for the people on my list (most of that pressure coming from myself) rattles me every year, and I always dread the physical pain of browsing in stores and standing in lines. These days, I do most of my shopping online, but even that can be draining when you have no idea what someone wants or needs, and you really want the gift to be perfect. Sometimes, it is hard for us as their friends to confront them in their sin and hold them accountable, because their suffering is so raw and unending. Are we doing them a favor when we overlook their sin and make excuses for them? Maybe for a time this might be appropriate, as they each adjust to the difficulty or trial. But if this sin becomes a pattern, as it has with the examples above, then we as their Christian brothers and sisters must help them to repent and change.Read More
So, today I am celebrating this anniversary instead of grieving. I am celebrating the goodness of God in my life, and the beauty of heart change for life change. But most of all, I am celebrating the many ways that God has used a botched surgery to make me more like His precious Son.
