I was perusing my Facebook page this past Saturday morning when I came upon a post that said this:
The hands that type “AMEN” will receive these things from God before the end of this month:
- Uncommon favour
- Breakthrough
- Dominion over your enemy
- Prosperity
- God Blessing
- Promotion
- Spiritual elevation
- Separation from poverty
- God Protection
- God intervention
- Admission
- Every good things of life
- Kingdom of God
Type “AMEN” with faith and see your miracle happen
When I sat down to type this, there were over 20,000 responses. The counter continued to advance by 10’s every few seconds. At least one of those responses was not an “Amen.”
This sort of thing really infuriates me. This man calls himself a Christian and a Pastor. If so, he is responsible for leading people that the Bible describes as dumb sheep in the paths of righteousness. People who are no doubt hurting and seeking answers and help in their time of need are being deceived by this sort of nonsense. They are being led astray.
This man cannot promise anyone who types “Amen” any of these things by the end of this month or by the end of their lifetime! “Amen” has no magical power and God is not a genie in a lamp nor is He a cosmic Santa Claus waiting for your list of requests!
Dear reader, please do not be deceived by such charlatans! The Bible says that every person who is in Christ has found favor with God (#1)! God’s pleasure and His favor rest upon us because of the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ on the cross that paid the penalty for all our sin (2 Timothy 1:9).
I cannot think of any greater blessing (#5)than to be called a child of God. The Christian has been adopted by God, redeemed by God, brought from death to life by God, given every spiritual blessing in Christ by God (Ephesians 1). We have been seated in the heavenlies with Christ (Ephesians 1:6) (#7,) and have all the power in Christ that we need (Ephesians 3:20)!
giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light. For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son,in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. Colossians 1:12-14 (#10,11)
Our spiritual blessings include having overcome our enemy (#3),
I am writing to you, fathers, because you know Him who has been from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I have written to you, children, because you know the Father. 1 John 2:13-14 (and 1 Corinthians 15:57; 2 Corinthians 10:3-5; Hebrews 2:10-14)
and enjoying the assurance that our salvation is being protected (#9) by the Lord Jesus Christ!
and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. “My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand John 10:28-29
Are we to spend our lives seeking after riches and material goods? Are we to spend our lives focused on ourselves (#4,6,8,12)? Is this life intended to be all about us? Am I such a blind fool that in my 28 years of reading the Bible I have somehow missed the command to seek after spiritual promotion or a breakthrough? Oh, and how did I miss that exhortation to ask for a separation from poverty?!
NO I say! The list of things above is supremely selfish! It is completely focused on self-gain and self-promotion!
But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger. Romans 2:8
Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.… 1 John 2:15-16
You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. James 4:4 also Romans 12:1-2, 1 Timothy 6:10
Oh reader, friend, fellow Christian do not be led astray by these wolves in sheep’s clothing. Seek pure and genuine faith, humble yourselves before God and if He so desires He will lift you up in His time and in His way. Care for others, put their needs before your own, consider them better than yourself, seek first the honor and glory of God and above all refuse to be corrupted by the world!
T.D. Jakes cannot promise you any of those 13 items on his list will come into your life if you type “Amen” or if you give him your last precious dollar. But this I can promise him- a warning from the Word of God for those who claim to be shepherding God’s people:
Because of God’s grace to me, I have laid the foundation like an expert builder. Now others are building on it. But whoever is building on this foundation must be very careful. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one we already have—Jesus Christ.
Anyone who builds on that foundation may use a variety of materials—gold, silver, jewels, wood, hay, or straw. But on the judgment day, fire will reveal what kind of work each builder has done. The fire will show if a person’s work has any value. If the work survives, that builder will receive a reward. But if the work is burned up, the builder will suffer great loss. The builder will be saved, but like someone barely escaping through a wall of flames.
Don’t you realize that all of you together are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God lives in you? God will destroy anyone who destroys this temple. For God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple.
Stop deceiving yourselves. If you think you are wise by this world’s standards, you need to become a fool to be truly wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God. As the Scriptures say,
“He traps the wise
in the snare of their own cleverness.”
And again,
“The LORD knows the thoughts of the wise;
he knows they are worthless.” 1 Corinthians 3:10-20
